The Playstation 5 Showcase finally arrived with all the Playstation related goodness we deserved, and wow was it amazing. Sony said it would focus on games, and they did. In this article, I’ll detail every announcement related to this event. I also have a lot of thoughts but will save those for tomorrow. Without further ado,
Here’s the recap!
Sony started off the show with a PS5 montage, it didn’t really show anything new – but it gets you in the right mood. Here it is!
Final Fantasy XVI
First up was the next installment in the Final Fantasy franchise, created by the developer of Final Fantasy XIV. The director is set to be Naoki Yoshida as rumored. And the biggest news? It’s a Playstation 5 Console exclusive, which means it comes out on the PS5 and the PC.
Spider-Man Miles Morales
Next up was Miles Morales. We got an in-depth, 7-minute showcase of the game. The game takes place one year after Spider-Man [PS4] and follows Miles. His mom is running for major and Ganke is also seen walking together with Miles. We also learn that The Tinkerer is [a] villain in this game, perhaps the main one. (I’m guessing Prowler will be)
Afterward we get a look at the combat. It looks very much familiar with its PS4 counterpart, with the added powers of Miles.
On the Playstation Blog we also learned that the game is coming to PS4, it’ll also have two versions on the PS5. The regular one for 49.99$, and the Ultimate one for 69.99$ containing the game, and a remastered version of Spider-Man PS4. It’s also worth bringing up the fact that it isn’t a simple remaster, it has new assets, a 60 FPS mode and Ray Tracing.
The game is launching on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 on the PS5 launch day.
Next up is a game from the Harry Potter universe, coincidentally I wrote an article about it this week. There was a long look at the game that leaked a few years ago. The game is an open-world game set in Hogwarts in the 1800 Century. You’ll create your own wizard, fight trolls and magical monsters, learn a spell and go to classes.
The thing that ruined the reveal, similarly to how the recent Ubisoft showcase was ruined, is the fact that JK Rowling has been apart of a lot of recent controversies regarding Trans rights.
The game is developed by Avalanche Software (Again, not the Just Cause devs) and will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.
Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War
Next we got a trailer from Activision, Treyarch and Raven Software. It was a single player focused mission, but we also learned that they’ll soon be showing more from the Multiplayer and Zombies mode(s).
For PS4 owners, they’ll launch an exclusive Alpha this weekend for everyone. You can pre-download it right now. The game is launching November 13 for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X and PC.
Resident Evil Village
Once again RE8 shows up and looks damn great, however it once again shows up and destroys our chances of seeing the rumored Silent Hill game from Sony Japan and Project Siren.
But the trailer gives us another look at the world. As I’m currently playing through the series for the first time, I’m trying to avoid spoilers. But I believe that fan-favorite “The Merchant” from RE4 showed up at the end of the trailer!
The game will launch in 2021 on Playstation 5, Xbox Series S/X and PC
A game that was showcased at the last show Sony held in June was Deathloop, since then the game got delayed, unfortunately. However, the game got another trailer and it looks cool, although as RE: Village, kind of a similar look as its previous showing.
The game is launching Q2 2021 for Playstation 5 and PC.
Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition
Another game from Capcom, and this time it’s time for a remaster-isch game in DMC5 Special Edition. The game will feature two modes, one in 4K 30 fps, or one 1080p 60 fps. More interesting are the news that the game is a launch title on PS5.
The game seems to be launching exclusivley on PS5, but we haven’t officially heard anything yet.
The first game of this showcase I’m not particullary fond off. The game’s tone seem to be all over the place and I’m not sure about anything from this trailer. For fans of Oddworld, I hope you’re excited about it. I didn’t really see anything “new” from it.
It will release on PS4, PS5 and PC in 2020.
Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach
The next game is the internet hit (In like 2015) FNAF, the game is developed by Steel Wool Studios instead of just Scott Cawthon.
Other than that, the game seems to be launching this year. Only platform I believe is confirmed is PS5.
A game we’ve been anxious about, following since even before its announcement, is Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls. We got an extended look, showcasing random gameplay and traversal and a glimpse of some bosses + the most famous thing in Souls games. Dying.
The game is set to launch along side the PS5 and PC this year.
We didn’t get anything new regarding Fortnite, except announcing that it’s a launch title for the Playstation 5 running on the UE4.
Playstation Plus Collection
PS5 users will be pleased to hear that on launch day, you’ll recieve multiple titles from the PS4 catalogue for free. The following titles will be launched with the service
God of War, Last of Us Remastered, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Battlefield 1, Monster Hunter World, Fallout 4, Final Fantasy XV, The Last Guardian, Ratchet & Clank, Infamous Second Son, Bloodborne, Days Gone, Detroit Become Human, Batman Arkham Knight, Mortal Kombat X, Persona 5, Until Dawn and Resident Evil VII.
All of these games are some of the best titles available on PS4, and they’re all launching as free titles on PS+ at the PS5 launch. Incredible value, great move by Sony.
Price and Date
Finally, the price and date was shown off. Here’s the information:
God of War Ragnarök
To end the show, Sony went out announcing God of War Ragnarök as a PS5 exclusive, launching in 2021.
While Sony haven’t released the trailer to their channel yet, check it out over at IGN.
The ending montage is important, as it showcases new gameplay from a variety of titles like Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Returnal and Destruction All Stars. Check it out!
After show news
After the show ended, Sony gave us even more news.
The full launch lineup will be Astro’s Playroom (Which is free), Demon’s Souls, Destruction All-Stars, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Spider-Man Miles Morales. This means that the PS5 has a stacked launch, with multiple titles from different genres to pick from.
Sony also confirmed that the price for their exclusives will be 69.99$ the upcoming generation, which means more expensive games.
Spider-Man Miles Morales, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West are all coming to the PS4 also. And finally, Demon’s Souls is also coming to the PC.
I’ll write a post regarding my post show thoughts tomorrow, for now I leave you with this: I’m very excited about it, and I think Sony hit all the right places. I give this show a great score, and I can’t wait to get my hands on the PS5.
