After finishing and getting the platinum on Marvel’s Spider-Man back in 2018 I left with a grin on my face, looking back at one of the best games during the entire generation.
I’m a huge Marvel fan, and one of my favorite heroes? Yes, it’s the titular character, Spider-Man. And while the first game was about Parker, I’ve always wanted to see Miles get the spotlight a lot more. Reasons being, representation, he’s a great character, his powers are awesome and I love his ties to certain characters. (For example, his Uncle, variations of his father, Ms. Marvel and Nova in comic books and Ganke to name a few)
After having watched Into the Spiderverse, and reading Michael Bendis run of Ultimate Spider-Man, I realized that I enjoyed an aspect that wasn’t necessarily because of Miles – but it was the inclusion and almost focus of the music.
The movie in particular treats the majority of the movie like James Gunn treats Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s a fine-tuned story, crafted together with a great soundtrack and in some cases, it blends into the movie, and other times it plays as background music setting the tone for the audience.
It kind of builds Miles and in some ways makes him even more relateable. Michael Bendis’s run of Miles Morales also shows him around music a lot of times, and it seems like it’s something that is heavily integrated into his character and life.
When Spider-Man: Miles Morales was announced during the Future of Gaming showcase, we got to see Miles in the spotlight to the song On My Way with Jaden Smith and Kid Cudi. It’s a song I’ve enjoyed even before the trailer was released, and it was the main thing that caught my attention during the trailer. I even created a thread about it on the forum, ResetERA.
My biggest wish for the game was that Miles would have his own playlist, that you could choose to play whenever you want when doing missions or swinging around Harlem and overall New York. What I wanted was for it to work like the radio in GTA or similar games. And during the coverage with Game Informer, we got the confirmation.
Spider-Man Miles Morales will feature licensed and original music from various artists. And I couldn’t be more excited. It’s also announced that Miles is into mixing, and that that it’ll be a part of the game.
At this point, everything I hear is just icing on the cake, like the catsuit that was revealed yesterday.
Spider-Man Miles Morales is at this point my most anticipated PS5 Launch Title, I’ve got it pre-ordered and I can’t wait to finally lay my hands on this one.
